Bengaluru: The state has Rs 341 crore available for drinking water supply and there is no shortage of funds, said Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Ishwar B Khandre.
Speaking to reporters from Vikas Soudha, he said Rs 117 crore has been released in advance for rural drinking water supply. In addition, the Chief Minister has announced Rs 1 crore for each assembly constituency for water supply, and hence there is no shortage of funds, he said.
In villages where traditional water sources have dried up, alternative water sources have been identified to ensure uninterrupted water supply. Private borewells and open wells have been rented, water has been tested, and supplied through tankers, he said, adding that officials have been instructed to understand people's problems and work accordingly.
Only in cases of extreme necessity should borewells be dug, pumps installed, and electricity connections provided, directed Ishwar Khandre.
