New Delhi: Under the PM SuryaGhar scheme, more than 48 lakh families have benefited across the country, and already 18.93 lakh beneficiaries have zero electricity bills, said Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi.
The PM SuryaGhar scheme was launched in February 2024, and so far, a total of 39,72,447 solar rooftop systems have been installed, providing facilities to 48,02,717 houses across the country, including rural areas.
More than 18.93 lakh beneficiaries, including rural families, have received zero electricity bills in any month or billing cycle, depending on self-consumption. The electricity bills of consumers who have installed solar rooftops under this scheme have decreased significantly, according to Discoms.
In 2025-26, a total of 18.71 lakh solar rooftop systems with an installed solar capacity of 6.7 GW have been installed, which will benefit 22.71 lakh houses across the country, including rural homes.
Along with installing rooftop solar plants, the government also allows the installation of rooftop solar power plants in commercial buildings, including government buildings, educational institutions, and health institutions. However, these do not receive any financial assistance from the central government.
PM SuryaGhar: Mift Bijli Yojana is a demand-based scheme. Consumers across the country, including rural families, can apply on the national portal (www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in) to benefit from the installation of solar rooftops.
